Wednesday Blotter: Easter Bunnies Stolen, Minors in Casino, Egging, More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Theft

Police were dispatched for a theft report in the 2000 block of Fox Lane at 7:35 a.m. on March 28. Police stated someone removed three handmade, wooden Easter Bunnies from the front yard of the home sometime between 9 p.m. March 27 and 7 a.m. March 28. The bunnies were valued at $50.

In another incident at the same location, police stated that someone took a three-foot tall, gray and brown hand-painted Easter bunny lawn caricature from the front of the home on Fox Lane. The incident occurred sometime between 8 p.m. and 10:10 p.m. March 29. The Easter bunny was valued at $100.

No Valid Driver’s License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Luis E. Gomez-Garcia, of Des Plaines, age unavailable, was charged with improper display of registration, defective windshield, no valid driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 1100 block of E. Oakton Street at 1:44 p.m. on March 29. He was given a court date of May 14 at Skokie courthouse.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A motor home parked in the 1700 block of Pratt Avenue was reported to have a flat tire at 11:45 a.m. on March 29. Police stated that someone made three to four half-inch puncture marks on the tire of the motor home, which was parked on an empty lot across the street from a residence. The property loss was estimated at $170.

Malicious Mischief

Police responded to a malicious mischief report in the 200 block of Cumberland Parkway at 9:34 a.m. on March 28. Police stated sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on March 27, an unknown offender threw eggs at the residence. This was the second time the house was egged in the last two months.

Criminal Trespass to Property

Police were dispatched for a trespassing report at Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, at 10:27 p.m. on April 1. According to the report, Wilfredo Cruz, of Chicago, a member of the self-exclusion list, entered the casino. Cruz told police, according to the report, he knew he was on the list, but thought it had expired.

The Illinois Gaming Board began the Statewide Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program for Problem Gamblers in 2002, according to the Illinois Gaming Board’s website. It allows people who are problem gamblers to self-exclude themselves from Illinois casinos for a minimum of five years.

Gene O’Shea, Director of Self-Exclusion for the Illinois Gaming Board, individuals can petition to be removed from the list after five years, but no one has ever succeeded in this.

Minors Prohibited in Casinos

Police stated that Helm Swenson Elizabeth, 20, of Evanston, Michael John Fu, 20, of Evanston, and Alexander B. Nee, 20, of Palo Alto, CA, entered Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, with fake identification, and were issued citations for minors prohibited in casino on March 30.
