Tuesday Blotter: Three Men Flee Attempted Burglary Scene, Jewelry Stolen, More

Residential Burglary

Police were dispatched for a burglary report in the 200 block of Oxford Road at 7:02 p.m. on March 1. According to the report, sometime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. an unknown offender removed items including jewelry, watches and coins from the residence. The property loss was estimated at $2,050.

Attempted Burglary

Police responded to an attempted burglary call in the 2000 block of Halsey Drive at 7:25 p.m. on March 3. According to the report, a resident told police that while he was inside watching television, he heard his doorbell ring rapidly. When he opened the front door, he did not see anyone outside. While he was at the front door hear heard the back screened door being opened.

The man went to the back door and opened it, and, according to the report, was surprised to see three male subjections wearing all black clothing and “hoodies,” standing at his back door in between his residence and detached garage.

According to the report, all three male subjects ran eastbound toward the fence. Two of the subjects jumped the fence and ran southbound, and the other jumped the fence and ran northbound through another yard. According to the report, the resident chased the two southbound subjects, and observed one run eastbound on Halsey Drive and the other run westbound on Halsey Drive.

When the resident was walking back to his house he noticed a silver SUV parked and running east of his residence, and one of the male subjects he chased was inside it. When the man ran towards the SUV to get a closer look at the license plate, according to the report, the male driver wearing a hoodie drove westbound on Halsey recklessly and nearly ran over the man before making a right turn, heading northbound on Scott Street. Police searched the area but did not locate the offenders.

Petit Theft

Police responded to a retail theft report at K-Mart, 1155 E. Oakton St., at 3:58 p.m. on March 1. According to the report, Katarzyna Drozdz, 33, of Prospect Heights, was charged with petit theft after she allegedly attempted to exit the store with several items without paying for them. According to the report, Drozdz attempted to leave the store with one no-spill cup, two Nuby cups, one Dora the Explorer handbag and one two-piece shirt and pants. The property loss was estimated at $25.18. Drozdz was charged with petit theft and given a court date of March 19 at Skokie courthouse.
