Tuesday Blotter: Theft at Church, Sam's Club Thieves Strike Again, Burglary

It was a theft filled weekend here in good old Des Plaines.

Retail theft

strike again! Saturday Feb. 19 police responded to a report of theft at the Sam's Club store, 101 W. Oakton St., for the fourth time in a little over a month. The suspect, described as a white male in his early 20's, wearing a baseball cap, black jacket and jeans, entered the store and made his way toward electronics. He placed two security cameras with LCD monitors, valued at $900 each, into a shopping cart and left the store through an emergency exit. An accomplice was waiting in a green Ford Escape and helped the man load the merchandise into the vehicle before speeding off, according to reports. A green Ford Escape has been involved in the previous thefts.

Friday Feb. 18 police responded to a report of theft at First Congregational Church, 766 Graceland Ave. An unknown offender removed a 15 foot section of copper gutter downspout from the west side of the building, valued at $300.

Friday Feb. 18 police responded to a report of theft at Des Plaines Christ United Church, 1492 Henry Ave. An unknown offender removed two sections of copper down spouts (Coincidence? I think not.) from the north side of the building, valued at $15. 

Theft of gas

Saturday Feb. 19 police responded to a gas station at 885 E. Touhy Ave. for a report of theft. An unknown offender pumped $93.74 worth of gasoline into a red Ford van and left without paying.

Theft of gas

Saturday Feb. 19 police responded to the same gas station at 885 E. Touhy Ave. for another gas theft. An unknown offender pumped $42.17 worth of gas into a gold Chevrolet Impala and left without paying.

Residential Burglary

Monday Feb. 21 police responded to a report of burglary at a residence on the 1200 block of White Street. The victim said that when she returned home for the day, one of the garage doors, connected to the home, was wide open. When she stepped into the home she noticed several items missing and disorganized. Total estimated property lost: $5,400.

Burglary/ Criminal damage to property

Monday Feb. 21 police responded to a report of burglary at an auto repair shop, 1685 Oakton St. An unknown offender broke a garage window and stole a Solus Pro Scanner, according to reports. The business owner also reported that several vehicle titles were missing. A file tool and screwdriver were recovered from the scene. Total estimated property lost: $4,300.
