Tuesday Blotter: SUV, Truck Trailer Stolen

Also, man allegedly drives drunk with DUI, gets aggravated DUI.

The provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Vehicle Theft

Police responded to a vehicle theft report at an apartment complex located at 1600 Illinois St. on Oct. 28. According to the report, sometime between 10 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 28 an unknown offender used unknown means to remove a 1989, silver Honda CRV SUV from the parking lot. A check of the area yielded negative results.

Vehicle Theft

Police responded to a vehicle theft report at a business, 90 Rawls Road, on Oct. 31. According to the report, sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 31, a 53-foot white box trailer was taken by an unknown offender using unknown means from a warehouse parking lot. The trailer had empty road cases inside it, which are often used to transport musical instruments and other entertainment equipment.

Aggravated DUI

Police responded to a driving violation call to eastbound Oakton Street approaching Wolf Road shortly before 9 p.m. on Oct. 27. According to the report, police stopped a vehicle for violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code, and detected the strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. Police said Aleksander Filipowski, 35, of Des Plaines, failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police learned Filipowski’s driving privileges were currently suspended for DUI, and the assistant state’s attorney granted felony approval for aggravated DUI for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol while the offender’s driving privileges are currently suspended for DUI. Filipowski was given an initial court date of Nov. 4 at Skokie courthouse.

Burglary to Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a report of burglary to vehicle at , 3000 S. River Road, at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 28. According to the report, sometime between 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. an unknown offender used unknown means to punch out the lock on the hatchback of an SUV parked in the casino’s parking lot, and removed the victim’s black bag with a full set of Callaway brand golf clubs, valued at $1,500. Casino security advised police they were reviewing video and would let police know if they found anything.

Criminal Damage to Property

Police were dispatched for a vandalism report at a bank in the 500 block of Lee Street on Oct. 28. According to the report, a resident who lives near the business noticed graffiti painted in silver on the retaining wall next to his residence around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. The bank manager told police he did not know about the graffiti and they would not sign complaints.
