Tuesday Blotter: Slashed Tires and Encouraging the Delinquency of a Minor

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

Police responded to a vandalism report in the 1800 block of S. Spruce Avenue Sept. 29. According to the report, sometime between 10 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 11 a.m. Sept. 29 an unknown offender cut the sidewalls of tires on a vehicle parked in a residence driveway. The victim told police he has no known enemies and has no idea why someone would damage his vehicle.

Encouraging the Delinquency of a Minor/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Violation of Curfew

While conducting a premise check at the Market Place shopping center shortly after 2 a.m. Sept. 30 police observed a man run behind a dumpster near a liquor store in the 700 block of W. Golf Road, according to a police report. Suspecting a burglary, the responding officer called for backup. The subjects, Eric Egle, 19, of Mt. Prospect, and a minor told police they came from a friend’s nearby apartment. Both subjects smelled of burnt cannabis and admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. They told police they ran behind a dumpster because the girl was a minor, and they were afraid of getting arrested. During questioning the minor admitted to possessing the smoking pipe, and it was later recovered from her purse. The minor was issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of curfew. Egle was given a citation for encouraging the delinquency of a minor.

Suspicious Incident

A man came into the police station and reported a suspicious incident Sept. 27. According to the report, around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday he was riding his bicycle westbound on Algonquin Road, west of the , when a vehicle, described as a white Hyundai SUV, “revved” its engine and drove past so closely that if he stuck his pinky finger out, it would have been struck. He said he didn’t know how the passenger side mirror didn’t hit him. The man told police on three past occasions the same vehicle, driven by an unknown male, had driven extremely close to his bicycle, and he now feels the driver is intentionally trying to push him off the roadway. All the incidents occurred around the same times, and all on Algonquin and Wolf roads.
