Tuesday Blotter: Paintball Shooting Spree & Robbing a Pepsi Machine

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The  provided the following reports.

Malicious Mischief and Criminal Damage to Property

Police responded to five different reports of malicious mischief or criminal damage to property between 9:14 p.m. on Jan. 29 and 8:17 a.m. on Jan. 30. According to the reports, in each instance, the victims or complainants told police that their homes or cars had been shot with blue and yellow paintballs. In most cases, the reporting officer found little visible damage, but in one instance, a woman told police that a paintball had shattered one the front windows of her home. The same woman also said that shortly after the shooting, she had seen a dark car driving away from her home, headed westbound on Jarlath Avenue, but that she unable to see the license plate or make of the vehicle.

Theft from a Coin Operated Machine

Police responded to a theft from a coin operated machine report near M&T Automotive, 1714 S. River Rd., at 1:51 p.m. on Jan. 29. According to the report, the owner of M&T Automotive told police that someone had used an unknown object to pry and break the dollar validator of the Pepsi Cola soda machine located next to the front door of his shop and had removed $10. The man said he also believed the soda machine, which he valued at around $3,500, would have to be junked due to the damage.

Residential Burglary

Police responded to a residential burglary report in the 1500 block of South Webster Lane at 5:53 p.m. on Jan. 27. According to the report, a man and a woman told police that when they had locked all of the doors to their home when they left at 2:15 p.m., but that when their 27-year-old son returned approximately three hours later, he discovered that someone had forced open the basement door, ransacked three upstairs bedrooms and stolen almost $3,000 worth of jewelry, electronics and cash from the home. Items reported stolen include a Toshiba laptop computer valued at $600, a Samsung laptop computer valued at $600, $200 worth of jewelry and $2,300 in cash. The responding officer canvassed the area and spoke with neighbors, but no one reported seeing anything suspicious.
