Tuesday Blotter: Offender Enters House While Residents Are Home

Also, burglary attempt while man's daughter home alone.

The provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

While police were on routine patrol in the downtown area at 11:33 p.m. on Oct. 13 they observed a minor walking southbound on Lee Street from Miner Street. According to the report, they stopped the minor in the 500 block of S. Ida Street and smelled alcohol on his breath. When police asked the teen if he consumed any alcohol, he allegedly freely admitted he recently drank some Bacardi rum. He was issued a citation for minor consumption of alcohol and given a court date of Nov. 7 at the Skokie courthouse.

Attempted Burglary

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Busse Highway for a report of an attempted burglary Oct. 13. According to the report, the victim told police on Oct. 8 he and his wife left their daughter home alone between 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. His daughter said she heard a loud noise in the backyard. She turned on the backlight and didn’t see anything, but she called her brother to come and look. He found the latch had been broken on the basement window. When a repairman arrived to fix the window on Oct. 13 he told the residents it appeared someone had attempted to gain entry through the window, so they called police.

Criminal Damage to Property

Police responded to a vandalism report in the 1100 block of S. Arnold Court on Oct. 12, according to a police report. The south-side wall of a garage was spray-painted with graffiti. Police also reported two broken windows at the same garage on Sept. 25.

Criminal Trespass to Property

Police responded to a report of criminal trespass to property in the 1900 block of Welwyn Avenue. According to the report, the victim told police at approximately 8 a.m. he heard a knock at the front door, but did not answer it because he was taking care of his son. A few minutes later, while he was in the kitchen, an unknown offender, described as a white male with medium-length blonde hair, 30-40 years old, with a day-old beard and a brown jacket, opened the unlocked back door and walked inside the residence. The victim yelled at the offender to get out of his house. The offender fled the scene and the victim called police. Police checked the area and met with negative results.
