Tuesday Blotter: Man Charged with Burglary after Running into Tree, More

Burglary

Police responded to a burglary report in the 1600 block of E. Forest Avenue at 4:14 p.m. on May 4. According to the report, witnesses saw Brian Rene Oliva, 21, of Addison, enter a parked vehicle. When they confronted Oliva, according to the report, he said he thought the car was for sale, and then fled. Witnesses chased him westbound on Forest Avenue to northbound on White Street as a call to police was made.

Police stated another witness in the 1200 block of S. White Street observed Oliva enter his vehicle, and, when asked what he was doing, according to the report, Oliva said he thought the vehicle was for sale and turned to flee. While Oliva was looking back he ran into a tree in the front yard, and police arrived shortly after.

Police recovered cash, coins, GPS devices a debit card and other items. Oliva was charged with four counts of burglary and was given a court date of May 10 at Skokie courthouse.

Theft

Police responded to a theft report at a business in the 400 block of E. Howard Avenue at 7:36 a.m. on May 6. Police stated, sometime between 9 p.m. on May 5 and 7:36 a.m. on May 6, an unknown offender removed lawnmowers, wheelbarrows, shovels and other landscaping equipment from the parking lot. Property loss was estimated at $3,120.

Battery

Police responded to a battery report at Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, at 3:57 a.m. on May 6. Police stated Alexandros Giavridis, 34, of Chicago, was observed on video striking another patron in the face at a blackjack table. The other patron chose not to sign complaints. Casino staff told Giavridis he was no longer allowed in the facility.
