Tuesday Blotter: Graffiti At Funeral Home

Police are told it may be related to planned union strike.

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage to property

July 10: Police responded to a report of vandalism at Oehler Funeral Home at the 2000 block of E. Miner St. Sometime between July 10 at 5 p.m. and July 11 at 7 a.m. an unknown offender spray-painted profanity on the building and broke windows by throwing a concrete gutter through them. An employee told police he suspects it may have something to do with current union disputes. He said other funeral homes have been vandalized in the last few weeks.

Aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol

July 11: Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at the 2400 block of S. River Road. Luis Chell, 32, of the 1600 block of W. Morse Ave. in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and no driver’s license. He is scheduled to appear at Skokie courthouse July 27.

Burglary

July 11: Police responded to the 1800 block of Howard St. to a report of burglary. An unknown offender stole an antique German violin and black case from the property.

Theft

July 11: Police responded to the 1000 block of Arnold Court to a report of theft. An unknown offender stole a boy’s bicycle from the backyard of an apartment complex.

Theft

July 12: Police responded to a report of theft at the 2900 block of Curtis St. Unknown offenders stole two bicycles from the victim’s property. The victim recovered one of the bicycles while searching the neighborhood. He saw a group of teens with a bicycle. When the victim approached the group the teens dropped the bicycle and ran away.
