Tuesday Blotter: Des Plaines Journal Vandalized

Criminal Damage to Property

Police responded to a suspicious incident at Journal & Topics Newspapers, 622 S. Graceland Ave., at 8:17 a.m. on Jan. 16. According to the report, sometime between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Jan. 15, an unknown offender damaged three locks on different entrances to the building, two by a blunt instrument being forced into the keyholes, and one with what appeared to be super glue in it. The estimated property loss was $300.

Retail Theft

Police responded to a retail theft report at K-Mart, 1155 Oakton St., at 11:58 a.m. on Jan. 10. According to the report, a loss prevention manager for the store told police a male subject, later identified as Noeh Gomez, 37, of Des Plaines, was observed on security cameras removing numerous packages of razor blades from the shelf, and then taking them to the bedding department, where he met with a female subject, later identified as Georgina Rodriguez, 46, of Des Plaines.

Police said Gomez handed a package of Gillette Mach 3 razor blades to Rodriguez, who then tore open the package and handed the contents to Gomez. Gomez put the blades in his jacket pocket, exited the store and got into a gold Infiniti vehicle.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez was allegedly seen taking a Hot Wheels car, cosmetic concealer, a slimming belt, magazine and PEZ candy out of packages and placing the items in her cart underneath other merchandise. Rodriguez paid for numerous bags of laundry detergent and bottles of bleach, but did not pay for the items concealed earlier, police said. She then exited the store where she was met by the loss prevention manager and Des Plaines police officers.

The gold Infiniti left the scene before police arrived.

Gomez and Rodriguez were read their Miranda rights, and Rodriguez signed a waiver form agreeing to speak with police. Rodriguez said, according to the report, she committed no crime and paid for everything in her shopping cart. Gomez declined to speak with police.

Rodriguez was charged with criminal damage to property and retail theft. Gomez was charged with retail theft. The estimated property loss was $36.69. They were both given a court date of Feb. 24 at Skokie courthouse.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a theft report in the 1200 block of E. Harding Avenue at 4:54 p.m. on Jan. 15. According to the report, an unknown offender removed two hubcaps and a hood ornament from a 1990 blue Cadillac Deville, parked in a rear parking lot of an apartment building, sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 15. The complainant also reported the offender damaged the driver’s side windshield wiper by bending it backwards. The estimated property loss was $400.

Theft

Police were dispatched for a theft report in the 600 block of S. River Road at 5:03 p.m. on Jan. 16. According to the report, a red fire extinguisher was taken from the second floor of an office building sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday. The building manager told police this was not the first time a theft of the fire extinguisher had occurred. The estimated property loss was $100.
