Tuesday Blotter: Cut Lock Left at Scene of Boat Theft

Police also report $160 grabbed from cash register at store.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

School Vandalism

Police were dispatched Aug. 11 to investigate a vandalism report at Terrace School in the 700 block of South Westgate Road. According to the report, police found a three-foot long two-by-four that was apparently used to shatter a window on the north side of the building. Nothing appeared to be missing or disturbed inside the room where the broken window was discovered.

Vehicle Theft

Police responded Aug. 11 to a theft report at Napleton Chrysler car deanship in the 70 block of East Rand Road. According to a police report, a black 2011, Dodge Journey SUV was taken from the lot between Aug. 6 and 10. At the time of the theft, it was not known if the vehicle was locked. The dealership personnel told police the extra keys for the vehicle could not located.

Boat Theft

A Des Plaines man reported a trailer and boat were stolen from the street in front of his residence in the 700 block of Meadow Drive between 1 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Aug. 2. According to the police report, the 18-foot boat had a large fish design on both sides and a Yamaha outboard engine. A Master trailer hitch lock securing the boat had been cut and left behind.

Register Theft

Police responded to a theft report at a business in the 1100 block of South Lee Street on July 31. According to the police report, a store employee told police while he was walking from the back of the store, he saw a black male reach over the counter and into the broken cash register, which had a piece of duct tape holding the drawer in place. The suspect fled when the employee yelled that he would call the police. Afterward, in checking the cash drawer, he discovered about $160 was missing.
