Thursday Blotter: Repeat Offender Suspected in School Trepassing

Among police reports: Paradise Pup restaurant finds front door glass shattered.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary Attempt
Police responded to a reported burglary attempt at Paradise Pup restaurant in the 1700 block of South River Road at 4:56 a.m. Aug. 16. According to the report, a deliveryman told police he noticed the front glass door to the business was shattered. It appeared that two small pieces of concrete had been used to smash the glass, and there was an unknown red liquid, with the consistency of transmission fluid, had been poured on the glass, police reported. Police checked the premises and found nothing out of the ordinary. Police were told the door was intact when the restaurant closed at 6 p.m. the previous evening.

Criminal Damage to Property
Police were dispatched to a building in the 1900 block of Deane Street for a graffiti report Aug. 15. According to the report, the graffiti on the building's wall appeared to be black spray paint. A work order to remove the graffiti was placed to the city.

Criminal Trespass to Land
Police responded to a trespassing report at Algonquin Junior High School in the 700 block of East Algonquin Road on Aug. 12. A witness told police he saw a red Ford pickup truck leaving the south parking lot of the school with at least one gray metal door frame in its rear bed. An attempt was made to block the vehicle from leaving the roped-off parking lot but the pickup drove around another vehicle, exited and headed southbound on Fifth Avenue, police reported. Police were told there had been problems with the vehicle that had trespassed on school property to remove scrap without permission.

Burglary
Police were dispatched to investigate a burglary in the 800 block of East Oakton Street on Aug. 12. According to the report, the victim left his shed doors open at 1:30 a.m. and went to visit a neighbor. When he returned at 6:30 a.m., he noticed several items, valued at $215, were missing. The stolen items included a Black and Decker drill, a Sears Craftsman drill and two small surround sound speakers.

Burglary Attempt
An attempted burglary was reported at a residence in the 500 block of North Jon Lane on Aug. 12. According to the report, the victim told police that between July 25 and Aug. 12 screens were cut to both of her sliding patio doors. She said the damage was not immediately noticed because she did not use the patio doors.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle
Police responded to a vandalism report in the 1500 block of Walnut Avenue on Aug. 12. According to a police report, four vehicles were scratched from the front bumper to the rear bumper on the driver's side with a sharp object.
