Thursday Blotter: Purse Stolen at Casino, Vodka Stolen from Grocery Store, More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.

Theft

Police were dispatched for a theft report at Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, at 6:26 p.m. on Feb. 17. According to the report, the victim noticed her gold coin purse, which contained identification and $800 in cash, was missing. She alerted casino security, which attempted to locate the incident on video surveillance, but did not find it.

According to the report, another casino patron turned in the gold coin purse after it was found in the slot machine area. The purse contained all the miscellaneous items and identification, but the $800 was missing.

Retail Theft

Police responded to a theft report at Shop & Save Market, 518 Metropolitan Way, at 4:54 p.m. on Feb. 17. According to the report, Julie Marie Chubirka, 37, of Des Plaines, was stopped by store employees after she allegedly attempted to exit the store with a stolen bottle of vodka in her purse.

When a store employee asked Chubirka if she took anything, according to the report, she took a bag of pistachios from her purse and said she took them. When police asked Chubirka if she took anything else in addition to the pistachios, according to the report, she said no.

Police then looked in Chubirka’s purse and found a bottle of vodka. When police asked Chubirka if she stole the vodka, she said yes, according to the report.

Property loss was estimated at $26.98. Chubirka was given a court date of March 2 at Skokie courthouse.

Retail Theft Under $150

Police were dispatched for a theft report at K-Mart, 1155 E. Oakton St., at 1:04 p.m. on Feb. 19. According to the report, Thomas S. Alex, 43, was charged with retail theft under $150 after several stolen items were found in his pockets.

Alex was observed allegedly concealing various items in his jacket pocket, and, when police searched him after he passed the last point of purchase, several additional items were recovered from his pants pocket.

Items taken included: one 12 oz. bottle of Tropicana Orange Juice, one pack of Pokémon cards, one pack of Joe Boxer socks and three packages of styluses. The estimated property loss was $33.95, and Alex was given a court date of March 12 at Skokie courthouse.
