Thursday Blotter: Possession of Cannabis, Homeless Found in Empty House

Homeless said they entered the home due to weather conditions.

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage to vehicle

May 28: A delivery man reported that he heard a loud pop and then noticed his windshield was cracked down the middle while he was sitting in his truck parked in back of Jewel grocery store, 819 South Elmhurst Road. He exited the vehicle and noticed a jagged rock nearby but did not see anyone in the area.

May 28: A woman reported that the rear passenger tire on her vehicle had been slashed while she was parked in a lot on the 400 block of Laurel Avenue.

Criminal damage to property/trespassing

May 27: The maintenance man of a warehouse on the 1700 block of East Birchwood Avenue reported that four window panes had been broken out of the north side of the building.

May 28: Three homeless people were arrested after the property manager of a building on the 1500 block of Woodland Avenue called police and reported that a back door window had been shattered. Richard Carlson, 54, Veronica Gorlicki, 37, and Omar Ortiz, 31, were all charged with criminal damage to property and trespassing. They told police that they had come into the home because of weather conditions. Police said several beer cans were found inside the home.

Possession of cannabis

May 28: Police pulled a man over on the 2500 block of Church Street for driving a vehicle with only one working headlight. While investigating, police found the man to be in possession of cannabis. Justin Conrad, 28, of the 9300 block of Home Avenue, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with no insurance and driving on a suspended license.

May 27: A man reported that his lock had been removed from a locker at the Latoff YMCA, 300 E. Northwest Highway, and his cell phone, debit card and cash stolen. A maintenance man found the removed lock in another locker.
