Thursday Blotter: Man With Unusual Name Charged With Improper Use of Registration

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage to vehicle

April 25: A woman reported that the front driver's side window of her vehicle had been shattered while parked on the 1400 block of Henry Avenue.

April 25: A man reported that the windshield of his vehicle had been shattered (possibly by a baseball bat) while parked on the 1600 block of E. Whitcomb Ave.

April 27: A woman reported that an unknown offender had cracked the driver's side front window of her vehicle while it was parked on the 300 block of E. Northwest Highway.

Expired registration

April 26: Police arrested a man after they found his registration to be expired but noticed the sticker on his license plates was not. Christ R. Economy (say it fast out loud for a chuckle), 49, of the 400 block of S. Home Street in Park Ridge was charged with having expired registration and improper use/display of registration after police found his license plate sticker to be registered to another vehicle. Economy said he found the sticker at a gas station. 

Residential burglary

April 26: Police responded to a residence on the 400 block of Anita Street for a report of burglary. The victim said that he lost his garage door opener and house key a few weeks ago and thinks that's how the offenders gained entry into the home because there were no signs of forced entry. More than $12,000 worth of items were missing.

Theft

April 26: A woman reported that she placed her cell phone down at the checkout while paying for groceries at Jewel food store, 1500 Lee St. and left the store without picking it up. When she returned to the store it was missing.

April 27: An employee at Jewel food store, 819 S. Elmhurst Road, saw a man place a bottle of eye drops and a bottle of cough syrup in his pockets and attempt to leave the store without paying. Oscar Perez, 18, of the 500 block of Shadywood Lane in Elk Grove was detained and charged with theft.
