Thursday Blotter: Graffiti, Broken Laundry Coin Boxes and Battery

Several apartment laundry rooms broken into, verbal argument leads to battery charge.

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage to property

June 20: Police responded to a report of graffiti at the 600 block of N. Wolf Road. The victim told police red spray paint was used to damage windows on the west side of the building sometime over the weekend. There is a history of criminal damage at this location, according to the police report.

The offender then gained access to a locked storage area by a 3-foot-by-3-foot open hole in the cinder block wall. Inside the storage area the offender pried open padlocks on eight storage units. It was unknown if anything was removed from the storage units. Burglaries involving washing machines and storage lockers were also reported at another location at the 2000 block of Pine Street, and at two locations at the 2000 block of Ash Street.

Criminal damage to vehicle

June 20: Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Dulles Road in response to a report of criminal damage to vehicles. The victim told police she was out for a walk when an unknown offender damaged the driver’s side of her vehicle possibly with a key causing multiple scratches in the paint. The victim pointed out four other vehicles that had also been damaged in the area.

Battery

June 21: Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Algonquin Road in response to a reference to battery. The victim told police she was a student and was not satisfied with the training she received. She told police it did not meet the states requirements as promised in the course guidelines. The offender, Jacqueline T. Soriano, refused to give the victim a refund until she spoke with her husband.

A verbal argument occurred and Soriano threatened to call police. The victim called police and Soriano begged her not to call, and grabbed her by the wrist and forearm. As the victim pulled away from her the cell phone dropped to the ground, causing a piece of the cell phone case to break. The victim called 9-1-1 and said she was not injured during the event, but wishes to sign complaints.

Soriano was placed under arrest for City Ordinance Battery 6-2-1-4 and issued a ticket for battery. Soriano is scheduled to appear at the Skokie courthouse July 13.
