Burglary to Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a burglary to vehicle report in the 1600 block of Stockton Avenue at 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 31. According to the report, sometime between 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 25, an unknown offender broke into a 2003 Toyota and stole $500 worth of electronics, including a GPS system and a portable DVD player. The victim told police that she had delayed reporting the incident because she was using the vehicle and was out of town. The responding officer reported seeing no signs of forced entry to the vehicle.

Unlawful Conduct of Operations and Suspended Driver’s Licenses

In two separate incidents on Jan. 31, Des Plaines police arrested and charged two men with driving on a suspended driver’s license and unlawful conduct of operations.

At 8:08 a.m., a patrolling officer reported witnessing Rodrigo Villegas-Bustos drive behind the Car-X Auto Service, 1108 E. Oakton St., and stop where old tires are placed. The officer reported that Villegas-Bustos’s truck had no business markings on it, revealing it to be an illegal “junk wagon.” The officer stopped Villegas-Bustos, ran a check on him, discovered that his driving privileges had been suspended, arrested him and transported him to the Des Plaines Police Station.

At 11:37 a.m., the same patrolling officer reported seeing Javier Salgado-Salgado drive behind the Lee Manor Nursing Home, 1301 S. Lee St. and stop at a garbage receptacle. Salgado-Salgado exited his vehicle, checked the contents of the receptacle, got back into his truck and attempted to drive away when the officer stopped him. Salgado-Salgado’s truck was also without business markings and the officer determined it to be an illegal “junk wagon.”  The officer ran a name check on Salgado-Salgado, found him to be driving on a suspended license, arrested him and took him into custody. Salgado-Salgado was also charged with driving with a defective windshield.
