Smashed Milk Gallons, Stolen Computers, More in Thursday Blotter

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.

Criminal Damage to Property

An unknown white male subject, described as having a thin build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, was seen on video surveillance removing a gallon of milk from the shelf at Jewel-Osco, 819 S. Elmhurst Road, and pretending to fall onto the floor, smashing the gallon of milk, at 3:15 p.m. on March 5, police stated. The male subject left the store without paying for the milk or reporting the incident, according to the report.

This incident was consistent with a video prank trend on YouTube, police stated. Property loss was estimated at $4.

An unknown white female subject, described as having a thin build, with dark hair, wearing a white shirt and black pants, was seen on video surveillance removing a gallon of milk from the shelf at Jewel-Osco, 819 S. Elmhurst Road, and pretending to fall onto the floor, smashing the gallon of milk, at 2:27 p.m. on March 6, police stated. The female subject left the store without paying for the milk or reporting the incident, according to the report.

This incident was consistent with a video prank trend on YouTube, police stated. Property loss was estimated at $3.

Residential Burglary

Two computers, two video game consoles and jars of coins were reported stolen from a residence on the 500 block of W. Kathleen Drive between 10 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. on March 7, police stated. An unknown offender used a landscaping brick to break the glass on the rear sliding door of the residence, according to the report, to gain entry. Property loss was estimated at $2,100.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

The driver’s side rear window of a car parked on the 400 block of W. Kathleen Drive was smashed sometime between 11:30 p.m. on March 11 and 8:30 a.m. on March 12, police stated. Property loss was estimated at $100.
