Des Plaines police are looking for a man they say is responsible for robbing a Shell gas station in Des Plaines at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, police stated in a press release on Friday.
The man entered the Shell station, 1605 S. River Road, demanded cash from the employee at the register, police stated, took the cash and fled the area.
There is video of the robbery, said Sergeant Christopher Mierzwa, but it’s being held as evidence and not being released to the public. The man did not display a weapon, Mierzwa stated.
“This is currently an ongoing investigation with no other information to report at this time,” Des Plaines police stated.
After robbing the Shell station in Des Plaines, the man fled east into Park Ridge, said Park Ridge Police Commander Lou Jogmen.
Maine South High School was placed on soft lockdown at 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m., a spokesperson for the high school district stated. A daycare center was also placed on lockdown, according to police.
An employee of the Shell station, who was not present when the robbery occurred, said a man entered the business sometime during the noon hour. The man’s face was covered, the gas station employee said, and he took a pop from the shelf before approaching the register.
