Results Are In: 10 Day St. Patrick's Day Traffic Safety Campaign

420 vehicles pass through roadside safety checkpoint.

Des Plaines Police just compiled the results of their 10 day St. Patrick's Day Campaign. The enforcement was made possible by a Traffic Safety Grant from IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation). Stations included one roadside safety checkpoint, six seatbelt enforcement zones and six DUI saturation patrols. The following is a summary of tickets issued, charges and arrests made. This information was made available by the Des Plaines Police Department.

Seatbelt Enforcement Zones: 

  • 239 tickets issued for failure to wear a seatbelt
  • 11 tickets issued for failure to secure a child in a safety seat
  • 4 miscellaneous tickets issued

Roadside Safety Checkpoint: (420 vehicles passed through the checkpoint)

  • 3 suspended/revoked license
  • 4 no driver's license ever issued
  • 15 tickets for no proof of insurance
  • 18 tickets for failure to wear a seatbelt
  • 13 tickets for vehicle equipment violations
  • 4 tickets for license plate registration violations

DUI Saturation Patrols: (12 DUI arrests were made, 10 under the grant and two on separate patrol)

  • 10 tickets for improper lane usage
  • 6 tickets for no valid proof of insurance
  • 2 open alcohol charges
  • 1 suspended driver's license
  • 1 possession of cannabis
  • 1 leaving the scene of an accident
  • 14 miscellaneous tickets
