Police Respond to Explosion Report in Des Plaines

Residential road closed for five hours while police search for possible fireworks.

Des Plaines police responded to a report of a large explosion on the 500 block of Webford Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. on Jan. 17, stated Deputy Chief Nick Treantafeles. The reported explosion was possibly fireworks, according to the police report, but, after searching the area, no fireworks were found.

Treantafeles stated police closed the road for precautionary purposes until approximately 2 a.m. while they searched the area, and until police were confident there were no fireworks.

The source of the explosion was not discovered, Treantafeles stated.
