No suspects were in custody in connection with a reported gas station robbery that occurred in Des Plaines on Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for Des Plaines police confirmed on Thursday evening. Des Plaines police stated no other information about the incident would be provided at this time.
A suspect robbed a Shell gasoline station at Oakton Street and River Road in Des Plaines Thursday, then fled east into Park Ridge, said Park Ridge Police Commander Lou Jogmen. Maine South High School was placed on soft lockdown at 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m., a spokesperson for the high school district stated. A daycare center was also placed on lockdown, according to police.
An employee of the Shell station, 1605 S. River Road, who was not present when the robbery occurred, said a man entered the business sometime during the noon hour. The man’s face was covered, the gas station employee said, and he took a pop from the shelf before approaching the register.
The man demanded money from the register, the gas station employee said, and told the clerk to keep her hands on the counter where he could see them.
The clerk then gave the man some amount of cash from the register, the gas station employee said, and he ran away.
