Police: Des Plaines Man Stabbed Father New Year's Eve

A Des Plaines man stabbed his father New Year's Eve after a night of drinking, Des Plaines police said.

John Reardon, 20, had been home drinking with his father, James Reardon, 62, when he became "agitated." Police said John Reardon began to physically assault his father, pushed him down a flight of stairs, and then stabbed his father once in the chest with a knife.

James Reardon also suffered a laceration to the back of his head.

James Reardon told police that once his son saw blood spilling from the large puncture wound in his chest, his son became "very emotional" and tried to treat his father's wound. James Reardon then suggested his son call for medical assistance.

John Reardon has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery to a victim older than 60 years of age.
