Update: Police Shot and Killed a Des Plaines Man Outside a Strip Mall

A reader reported a "mound covered with a blue tarp" in the middle of the parking lot.

 shot and killed a man outside a strip mall in the 1900 block of E. Touhy Avenue at approximately 3:12 p.m. on May 13, police stated on Monday.

Carlos Salgado, 44, of Des Plaines, was fatally shot, but the report did not give details about what happened leading up to the shooting. Salgado was listed as an offender, but a specific crime was not given in the report.

Police stated officers involved were injured, treated at Lutheran General Hospital and released; the report did not specify how many officers were treated.

The incident occurred east of the strip mall that includes the Angel Town preschool and a liquor store, in the strip mall with Sunrise Grill and Benedict’s Old Fashion Barber Shop.

According to the report, the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force was called to the scene to investigate. Police stated the task force often investigates other agencies when there is a shooting.

A reader reported the parking lot, and westbound lane of Touhy Avenue were closed for a period of time while the police and fire departments responded. The reader also reported there was “a large mound covered with a blue tarp” in the middle of the parking lot.

I believe it is because the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is still investigating the incident.

Or maybe it was Police brutality and they're trying to cover it up...common now, police officers injured but the injuries were not reported. Sounds like some evidence has been planted to me.

It doesn't both you that someone tried to run down police officers with their car? The police aren't perfect, but look at the losers they have to deal with. Our society has gone very bad and not just in the city anymore. Officers have the right to defend themselves!!!!

I agree Judi. These same people are the ones who would be first to call 911 if they are ever in trouble.
