Police: Des Plaines Bank Robbed

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following report.

Police responded to a robbery report at First Merit Bank, 678 S. Lee St., at 1:48 p.m. on Nov. 30. Witnesses told police, according to the report, a man approached a bank teller and said he accidentally threw away his deposit slip. He then walked back to a counter, removed a garbage bag from a garbage can, returned to the teller, and handed the bank employee a note, which stated, “This is a robbery. Put all the cash in the bag. Do not set any alarms.”

The man said, according to the report, “Do what you’re told and nobody gets hurt. I won’t hurt you. Just put the money in the bag.”

The teller put cash in the garbage bag and the man walked to the exit, police stated. One witness followed the man through the first set of doors and, according to the report, punched the man in the back of the head. The witness then began fighting with the man in the vestibule of the bank. The man broke free from the witness, ran out the bank, police stated, and left behind a hat, glasses, shoe and some cash in the vestibule.

The witness ran after the man, police stated, and had another physical struggle with him in the parking lot behind the bank. The man broke free, got into the passenger side of a vehicle described as a black 2004, either Nissan Pathfinder or Infiniti Qx4, according to the report, yelled “Go! go! go!,” and fled the scene.

The man was described as a white male subject, 40-50 years old, 5-feet 6-inches to 5-feet 8-inches tall, medium build and fair complexion, wearing a hat, glasses and green plaid shirt.

White Packy's Liquors store employee December 07, 2012 at 07:06 AM
The Des Plaines PD is a joke. A liquor store down the street was robbed a few weeks ago or so, and he runs DIRECTLY down the alley towards the police station! He gets away. Then, the bank RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the police station is robbed. His only resistance came from a vigilante bad ass who should get his name posted here. The police, again, fail. Des Plaines is becoming a ghetto.
