Update: Pedestrian Killed By Train on Union Pacific Line

Trains are stopped due to the incident that occurred around 7:30 a.m.

Update: April 16, 2 p.m.

A train passing through Des Plaines Tuesday morning killed one person, and the incident is being investigated by Des Plaines police, according to Metra.

An eye witness report shared with Patch by a source who asked not to be identified said it was not clear whether the man walked into or jumped into the path of the train. The man was reported to have been on the center platform near the depot when the crash occurred.

Union Pacific Northwest Metra trains are at a standstill this morning after a pedestrian was hit in Des Plaines, the Sun-Times reports. 

A Metra train hit the person at 7:30 a.m. near the Des Plaines train station, the newspaper reports.

Many Union Pacific Northwest Trains to and from Chicago are halted as of 8 a.m. due to the incident. More information on delays can be found at metrarail.com
