Offender Attacks Taxi Driver Twice

Police find vehicle in ditch as cabbie tells them about altercations that day.

Police responded to a battery report involving a cab driver who they found about 2 a.m. July 31 alongside his vehicle, which was stuck in a ditch near the 600 block of Algonquin Road.

The man told police that earlier in the evening, he had been pushed around by another cabbie's customer after a verbal altercation that began when the other taxi driver was parked in the victim's parking spot at his personal residence. The argument cooled and the men went their separate ways.

Later that evening, a friend from work called to asked if the victim could transport him and some friends to the recently opened Rivers Casino. The victim picked them up and was told by his friend that they had to make another stop and pick up two more people.

The victim obliged and traveled to the next stop. As he waited in the parking lot of the residence, two men, one of whom was the offender from the earlier incident, ran up to the cab and began punching the driver in the face.

The passengers in his taxi fled the scene. The taxi driver attempted to escape by driving off but had difficulty seeing, which resulted in his vehicle winding up in the ditch.
