Monday Blotter: Too Much Booze Makes For a Bad Weekend

Aggravated Battery to Police Officer

On Sept. 10 at 2:52 a.m., police charged an Arlington Heights man with aggravated battery to a police officer during an incident at 505 W. Courtesy Lane. Michael Matthew Grabowski, 24, of the 2000 block of South Goebbert Road, was intoxicated and sleeping inside his vehicle outside of a residence when an officer attempted to wake him. Grabowski began shouting expletives and striking the officer, according to reports. After Grabowski was removed from the vehicle,  he continued striking the officer.  He was arrested, and his court date is set for Oct. 22 in Skokie.

 Criminal Trespassing Arrest

On Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., Joseph Nathan Sykes, 54, of the 2000 block of South Pine Street, was charged with trespassing at the Dominick's grocery store at 1555 S. Lee St. Police reported that Sykes, who was highly intoxicated, had been wandering around the store, yelling obscenities at customers. He left the store at the request of employees but returned a few minutes later to purchase a postage stamp and a beer that he pulled from his back pocket, which an employee refused to sell him. Sykes has been given previous multiple trespass warnings. He is scheduled to appear at Skokie Courthouse on Sept. 27.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a 52-year-old woman reported someone scratched the bumper of her 2010 Chrysler Sebring while it was parked in a lot at 1365 S. Lee St. Property damage is estimated at $200.

Retail Theft

On Sept. 11 at 7 a.m., Jolanta Urszula Konik, an employee at Butera grocery store at 727 Golf Rd., was arrested for retail theft after she admitted stealing items during her morning shift. Konik, of the 700 block of East Thacker Street was observed taking dog food, two containers of coffee, one rib-eye steak and one bottle of Smirnoff Vodka and placing the items in her car during her break. When officers searched Konik's vehicle, she admitted taking the items valued at $72.19. Konik will appear in court in Skokie on Oct. 22.

Disorderly Conduct - False 911 Call 

At 12:45 a.m. Sunday, officers went to the Mobil gas station at 1530 E. Rand Rd. in response to a 911 call that involved someone making sexually laced comments about Officer John Hutson. James E. Cronfel, 44, of the 700 block of Parkview Circle, is charged with disorderly conduct and making a false 911 call. While he initially denied making the phone call, Cronfel repeated the remarks when Hutson arrived on the scene. Earlier Cronfel had been approached by officers at 1420 E. Miner St. for making a similar call full of expletives "and other ramblings," and was told not to call again unless it was a true emergency, according to reports. Cronfel will appear at Skokie Courthouse Oct. 04.

Possession of Cannabis

At 1:55 p.m. Sunday, an officer spotted five youths sitting in a parking lot with smoke coming from their vehicle. When the youths became aware of the officer, they pulled out of the lot and began driving down the street, according to reports. When police pulled the vehicle over, the driver admitted that she was in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, and signed a "consent to search waiver" The driver is scheduled to appear at Skokie Courthouse on Oct. 10.

Disorderly Conduct

At 9:36 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at the trailer park at 1330 E. Rand Rd. Gerald John Kolak, 47, was charged with disorderly conduct after his neighbor reported to police that Kolak had been shouting expletives at him and harassing him. When officers arrived, Kolak appeared to be highly intoxicated, according to reports. The situation was being diffused and the neighbor began to walk away when Kolak became agitated and began to go after him. Police arrested Kolak, who has court hearing Oct. 22 in Skokie.
