Monday Blotter: Stolen Car, Stolen Wallet at Mystic Waters, More

Driving While License Suspended, Improper Turn, Obstructing Identification, Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle

Police responded to a report of a vehicle on the Wisconsin Central railroad tracks at Touhy Avenue at 3:01 a.m. on June 14. When police arrived on the scene, a 2000 Grand Prix, white, was on the train tracks and unoccupied.

When police checked the vehicle in the tracking system, it was reported stolen in Bismarck, ND.

The driver, later identified as Timothy Frederick Phillips, 41, of Williston, ND, then returned to the car. When police asked Phillips for his name and about for his relationship to the vehicle, according to the report, Phillips gave a false name and told police the owner of the vehicle was using the bathroom in the Radisson Hotel.

A desk clerk at the hotel told police, according to the report, Phillips was the only one who entered the building. Police checked the ladies room and it was empty.

Des Plaines police transported Phillips to the station and contacted Bismarck police, and they confirmed the Grand Prix was reported stolen from an apartment building parking lot.

Police also discovered Phillips’ license was suspended through Illinois and had a warrant for his arrest from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.

Phillips told police, according to the report, he “borrowed” the car in North Dakota and had gotten lost. Phillips said, according to police, that he had left the area in hopes of straightening out his life, and he was going to enroll in the 1st Step Program in Des Plaines. Phillips said, according to the report, he initially gave police a false name because he was aware of the warrant for his arrest.

The owner of the vehicle stated, according to the report, she did not lend her vehicle to Phillips and he had no business driving it to Illinois.

Phillips was charged with a felony, possession of stolen motor vehicle. He was also charged with driving while license suspended, improper turn and obstructing identification. Phillips was given a court date of June 27 at Skokie courthouse.

Criminal Trespass to Property

Kimberly Brown, 40, of Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to property after she was found in Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, between 1:45 a.m. and 1:47 a.m. on June 15. A casino security supervisor told police, according to the report, on a previous occasion Brown was charged with theft and criminal trespass to property, and warned not to return to casino property.

Theft

A white wallet containing $15, gift cards and a state identification card was reported stolen from the concessions area at Mystic Waters Family Aquatic Center, 2025 E. Miner St., sometime between 3:50 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 14. Property loss was estimated at $115.
