Monday Blotter: Public Drunkenness, Trespass

Even after multiple chances from police, a few intoxicated fellows didn't want to leave.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Auto theft

Aug. 24: A man reported his 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic missing about 1 a.m. He told police that a couple of weeks ago, a window was broken on the car and the stereo stolen.

The car owner said he had taped up the window and left it parked in the 2900 block of Curtis Street, where it's registered to his mother as he doesn't have a valid driver's license. However, in the early morning hours, he found the vehicle gone from its usual spot on the street.

Criminal trespass

Aug. 24: Police arrested Dennis M. Bohannan, 45, of Park Ridge, after he refused to comply with their warnings about sleeping on a bench near the bus queue outside the Downtown Depot in the 1500 block of Miner Street.

Police reported that his eyes were bloodshot, there was an odor of alcohol about him and he swayed when standing. Bohannan entered the roadway several times in the middle of heavy traffic and, after several warnings from the police, he began jogging away from them.

When police caught up with him, Bohannan pulled his hands away from them in an attempt to resist being handcuffed.

He was charged with trespassing, being an intoxicated pedestrian and resisting a peace officer. He has a court date of Sept. 9.

Trespassing

Aug. 24: Bryan R. Ferguson, 47, of Morton Grove, allegedly went in a dog training business in the 1300 block of Rand Road and asked for directions.

Police reported that he smelled of alcohol and seemed agitated before he began cursing as an employee gave him directions in front of customers, some of whom were children.

When the police arrived, they tried multiple times to give him the requested directions, but he apparently didn't comprehend and refused to leave.

The officers arrested Ferguson, who has a court date of Sept. 14.
