Monday Blotter: Possession of Cannabis, Property Damage, Theft

Homeless man tries to steal $43 bottle of liquor, man hides weed in pant leg.

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary to vehicle

May 29: A man reported that the front passenger window of his vehicle had been shattered while it was parked on the 2100 block of South Chestnut Street and his belongings rifled through, but did not notice that anything was missing. Property loss: $200.

Criminal damage to property 

June 1: A maintenance man reported gang symbol graffiti spray painted on an apartment complex wall on the 900 block of Beau Drive.

Criminal damage to vehicle

June 2: A man reported that the passenger side window of his vehicle had been broken while it was parked on the 1300 block of Fargo Avenue. Entry was not made to the vehicle. Property loss: $150.

Petty theft

June 2: A homeless man was charged with petty theft after a loss prevention officer at Dominick's, 1555 S. Lee St. saw him place a $42.99 bottle of liquor in his pants and attempt to leave the store without paying.

Possession of cannabis

June 2: Police stopped a man they suspected of exchanging narcotics with another man on the 8900 block of Potter Road, according to a police report. Alfredo Terrazas, 20, of the 8900 block of Robin Drive was charged with possession of cannabis after a "blunt" fell from his pant leg while being searched by police.

Theft

June 2:  A man reported that $850 worth of tools were stolen from the basement of his apartment complex on the 70 block of West Dover Drive. 

June 2: A woman reported that two mattresses valued at $800 were stolen from the basement of the same apartment complex on the 70 block of West Dover Drive.
