Monday Blotter: Man Throws Gang Signs, SUV Hits Car, More

Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving

Police responded to a road rage report in the 1800 block of S. Wolf Road at 1:05 p.m. on June 29. Police stated a car was damaged after the driver of a 2009 silver Toyota SUV, identified as Raudel Sanchez, 26, of Des Plaines, traveling northbound on Wolf Road in front of the car between 1 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. on June 29, slammed on the brakes, picked up a passenger, then reversed at a high speed and hit the car.

According to the report, the SUV passenger, identified as identified as Ivan “Speedy” Avina, 19, of Rosemont, threw up gang signs as he entered the truck.

Police stated the car driver swerved to the left to avoid being hit, but the SUV’s driver-side bumper hit the passenger side rear bumper and rear quarter panel of the car.

Sanchez then quickly made a U-turn, and began driving eastbound on Howard Avenue, police stated.

Sanchez told police, according to the report, he remembered the car following him earlier in the day on Howard Avenue, but he was not in an accident. Avina told police he did not know of any accident.

When asked about the damage to his SUV, according to the report, Sanchez said the small scuff on the bumper happened a month ago in a parking lot.

Sanchez was charged with reckless driving and felony criminal damage to property, and issued citations for improper stopping, improper backing, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police recovered a blue lunchbox from the SUV that, according to the report, Avina said was his. The lunchbox contained different kinds of prescription medication that did not belong to Avina, police stated. Avina was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Theft

A Trek 10-speed bicycle was reported stolen in front of Clinical Associates, 484 S. Lee St., sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on July 2. The bicycle was described as model number 6100 or 8100, blue and silver, with a basket and bag on the handlebars, with a yellow lock and speedometer/odometer senor on the front spokes. Property loss was estimated at $250.

Burglary, Theft from Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a burglary report at O’Hare Honda, 1533 S. River Road, at 6:30 a.m. on July 2. Police stated sometime between 4 p.m. on June 30 and 6 a.m. on July 2 a brick was thrown through the driver’s side window of a Toyota Camry, and the trunk lid, hood, front bumper and headlights were removed. Property loss was estimated at $900.
