Monday Blotter: Man Tells Police He’s Drinking ‘Pimp Juice,’ Lake Park Band Shell Vandalized, More

Drinking in Public

Police responded to an unwanted subject report at White Castle, 435 S. River Road, at 1:29 p.m. on Jan. 18. According to the report, an employee at the restaurant told police the offender, later identified as Joseph Nathan Sykes, 56, of Des Plaines, was intoxicated and bothering customers.

When they arrived on scene, police found Sykes standing outside the restaurant, drinking from a White Castle paper cup. According to the report, Sykes said, “Officer I’m cool; I wasn’t bothering nobody.”

The responding officer said he smelled an alcoholic beverage and Sykes slurred his words.

When police asked Sykes if he had any alcohol on his person he said he did not, and added, “go ahead and check,” according to the report.

Police removed the lid from the paper cup and found a clear liquid that allegedly smelled like an alcoholic drink. When police asked Sykes what was in the cup he said, “pimp juice [expletive].”

According to the report Sykes then demanded he be dropped off at home, became very agitated, and cursed in front of customers entering and leaving the restaurant.

Sykes was placed under arrest for drinking in public and was given a court date of Feb. 10.

Minors Prohibited from Entering Casino

Police were dispatched for a report of a minor attempting to enter Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, at 11:40 p.m. on Jan. 19. According to the report, Matthew Przybylski, 20, of Chicago, was taken into casino security after he allegedly attempted to enter the gaming venue with fake California identification.

Przybylski, according to the report, told police he purchased the fake identification for $100, and he knew he wasn’t supposed to be in the casino.

Przybylski was charged with minor prohibited from entering casino, and escorted off property.

Criminal Damage to Property

Police were dispatched for a vandalism report at Lake Park, 2200 Lee St., at 7:24 a.m. on Jan. 18. According to the report, sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 18, an unknown offender vandalized the band shell with black, gold and purple spray paint. Property loss was estimated at $100.

Criminal Trespass to Vehicle

Police responded to a burglary to vehicle report in the 1500 block of W. Walnut Avenue at 1:19 a.m. on Jan. 19. According to the report, the victim told police he had been working in his garage until 12:15 a.m., after which he got into his car in his driveway for about an hour, listening to talk radio and running the car to keep warm.

At 1:07 a.m. he exited the car to go in the house when he noticed an unknown male sitting in the driver’s seat of the victim’s mini-van, parked next to the car. When he approached the vehicle the unknown offender exited the mini-van holding an older, beat-up, light brown bag, similar to a tool bag, and fled northbound on White Street, westbound on Walnut Avenue and southbound through the backyard of a residence in the 1500 block of E. Walnut Avenue. The mini-van was left unlocked and nothing was taken. Police toured the area but did not locate the offender.
