Monday Blotter: Burglars Get $35,000 Worth Of Jewelry From Home

No signs of forced entry found at scene

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Attempted burglary

June 16: An employee at an office building on the 400 block of State Street reported that the lock on the front door of the business had been tampered with by an unknown offender. Access was not made into the building.

Burglary

June 16: A woman reported that various pieces of jewelry and watches, valued at more than $35,000, were stolen from her condo on the 500 block of South River Road. There were no signs of forced entry.

June 16: A woman reported that assorted pieces of camera equipment and various pieces of jewelry, valued at $7,250 were stolen from her condo on the 300 block of South Western Avenue. There were pry marks on the front door.

Minor consumption of alcohol

June 16: Two men were pulled over on the 800 block of West Oakton Street. Police discovered an open can of beer in the vehicle, which the passenger claimed was his, according to the police report. Bryan Fogell, 20, of the 1700 block of Junior Terrace, was charged with minor consumption of alcohol/possession of alcohol.

Possession of cannabis

June 16: Police observed a group of men loitering around the 1800 block of Mannheim Road. As they approached the men and announced that they were police officers, they observed a man take a plastic bag out of his pocket and drop it on the ground. Jimmy Montesinos, 18, of the 1300 block of Prospect Avenue was charged with possession of cannabis after the contents of the bag tested positive for the drug, according to police.
