Monday Blotter: Attempted Burglary to Vehicle, Possession of Cannabis, Theft

A would-be thief gets caught and flees the scene, plow is stolen from construction yard.

Attempted burglary to vehicle/ Criminal damage to vehicle

Wednesday Feb. 16 police were dispatched to a residence on the 500 block of North Sixth Avenue for an attempted burglary to a vehicle. A friend of the victim stated that when he was leaving the victim's home he noticed a pry bar and wire hanger protruding from the passenger door. He then observed a slim hispanic male, 16-20 years of age, wearing an orange winter hat, and dark hooded sweatshirt, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall, with no facial hair crouched behind the vehicle. The unknown offender fled the scene on foot. The victim reported that a similar incident occurred a few weeks ago.

Wednesday Feb. 16 police were dispatched to an apartment on the 700 block of Fifth Court for a noise complaint. As officers approached the unit, they detected the strong smell of cannabis. A man opened the door and invited officers in, although he was not a resident of the home. He admitted that the occupants had been smoking "weed" and admitted to being in possession of cannabis, according to reports. Rogelio Sanitillanes, 27, of the 2200 block of Kostner Avenue in Chicago was issued a citation for possession of cannabis.

Theft

Wednesday Feb. 16 police were dispatched to the Extended Stay Hotel, 1201 Touhy Ave., for a report of theft. The victim stated that after checking in and approaching his room, he set his briefcase down outside of the room to unlock the door. He entered the room, put the rest of his bags down and went to use the restroom, according to reports. While in the restroom he heard a knock at the door. When the victim went to answer the door and retrieve his briefcase it was gone. Officers investigated with negative results. Total estimated property lost: $382.

Theft

Thursday Feb. 17 police were dispatched to a construction yard, 1300 E. Rand Road for a complaint of theft. The victim reported that several items were taken from a storage unit and that a Bobcat and truck would be needed to lift and remove the items from the unit. Items reported taken were one red BOSS 8'2'' V Plow and one rust colored 96'' Bobcat snow bucket. Total estimated property lost: $7,200.
