Man Faces Murder Charge in Wife's Slaying

Opening statements will be made in the case of a man accused of stabbing his wife to death on Valentine's Day in 2011, the Daily Herald reported.

Opening statements will be made on Wednesday in the trial of Heriberto Ramirez, 50, of unincorporated Des Plaines, charged with murder in the first degree in the killing of his wife on Valentine’s Day, 2011, the Daily Herald reported. Ramirez is accused of stabbing his wife more than 30 times.

When patrol officers had responded to his residence at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, due to a 9-1-1 phone call made by his daughter, who was 9 years old at the time, in which she stated, according to law enforcement, her father was “hitting” her mother.

When police arrived they found Alicia Ramirez, at the time 45 years old, in the bathroom with extensive injuries, the Daily Herald reported.
