Man Died of Cardiovascular Disease in Elmhurst Road Crash

The Mount Prospect man that struck a bus and truck on Friday had cardiovascular disease, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Mount Prospect man that veered across Elmhurst road, and hitting a Pace bus, guardrail and semi-truck on Friday died of cardiovascular disease, a representative from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Tuesday.

Charles Dessent, 61, had hypertensive cardiovascular disease, and the representative from the medical examiner’s office said his manner of death was natural, according to the autopsy report.

Dessent’s 2003 Cadillac was traveling southbound on Elmhurst Road at Oakton Street in the outside lane when it veered off the road and sideswiped a Pace bus that was stopped to pick up passengers on Elmhurst Road, south of Oakton Street at 6:25 a.m., according to Des Plaines police.

Dessent’s Cadillac continued southbound on Elmhurst Road after swiping the bus, crossed to the east side of Elmhurst Road and struck a guard rail. The vehicle then crashed into a 2011 Freightliner truck traveling northbound on Elmhurst Road, south of Oakton Street, police stated.

Dessent was transported to Alexian Brothers Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m.

No other injuries from the truck driver, bus driver or bus passengers were reported, police stated.
