Glenview Man Pleads Not Guilty to Criminal Sexual Abuse of Minor

Allen Giron could face up to seven years in prison for two alleged sexual encounters with a 13-year-old Des Plaines girl.

Glenview man , 18, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, March 9 in the Skokie branch of Cook County Circuit Court.

If convicted, Giron could face up to seven years in prison for two alleged sexual encounters with a 13-year-old Des Plaines girl that left her with herpes, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.

A  senior, Giron was released on bail after posting the $5,000 cash portion of his $50,000 bond. He is under electronic monitoring and may leave home only to attend school, although his return to GBS is still in question, according to Giron’s attorney Steven Goldman. He expects a decision from the school soon.

“It’s up to the school,” Goldman said when asked if his client had returned to classes. Goldman indicated Giron may be attending Glenbrook’s alternative facility in Glenview.

In court, Goldman told Judge Timothy Chambers his client would waive a formal reading of the charges and plead not guilty. Goldman anticipates a trial this summer.

The judge then gave Giron some warnings.

“You must appear at all your hearings,” Chambers said. “If you do not, you can be tried in your absence. You can be convicted in your absence and you can be sentenced in your absence.”

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Cathy Crowley handed Goldman copies of evidence against Giron. Goldman also asked for a copy of the transcript from the Cook County grand jury proceedings which indicted Giron. Crowley agreed to furnish the record.

Police were originally notified of Giron’s meetings with the alleged victim by the girl’s sister, who told police that the teen had “at least two sexual encounters” with Giron and had recently been diagnosed with herpes by a doctor. No mention of herpes has been made in court.

Giron and the Des Plaines girl originally met on Facebook, according to statements Goldman made in court Jan. 31.

The case was continued until 9:30 a.m. April 13 in Room 207 of the Skokie courthouse.
