Police asked the driver for his birthdate, and when they looked up the registered owner’s information, the birthdate was different. After police had the driver exit the vehicle, they observed a multicolored pipe on the floor in front of the driver’s seat. Police placed the driver under arrest.

The driver told police the van belonged to his brother. When police confronted the driver with the fact that he lied about his name, he said he was going to tell the truth and that his name was Antonio Santiago.

According to police, a search of the vehicle revealed a glass pipe used to ingest cannabis, a clear plastic bag with a green plant material that tested positive for the probable presence of cannabis, and two open Tecate beer bottles. Santiago said he was on probation for a DUI from 18 months ago, and he smoked cannabis because it helps his upset stomach and it helps him sleep.

Santiago was charged with following too closely, improper lane usage, failure to signal, driving with revoked driver’s license, illegal transportation of alcohol, obstruction identification, possession of cannabis and possession of paraphernalia.
