Des Plaines Police: Woman Punched, Nose Broken Over $20

Des Plaines Police charged, Levell Leflore, 18, of Des Plaines with battery after an incident involving a 21-year-old woman.

Early on June 26 police responded to a report of a woman who was standing in the 2000 block of South Pine Street crying and bleeding from her nose. The woman said she was walking to her boyfriend's house when she was approached by two men. The woman identified one of the men as Leflore.

One of the men asked her for the $20 that she owed him and she told him she would go to her boyfriend’s house to get it, according to the police report. One of the men then punched her in the face, and she she fell to the ground and was briefly unconscious.

Paramedics took her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

Police took Leflore’s him into custody for further investigation.

A witness later told police he had seen two men approach a woman near Apache Park, and that one was about 6’ 4” and thin, wearing a yellow and black sleeveless t-shirt, punch the woman, according to the report. The other man was about 300 pounds and 5’10”, wearing a red t-shirt.  This witness had called 911.

Leflore gave a written statement , according to police, that he had sold the woman two bags of marijuana two weeks ago without payment. He said he wanted to scare her and act like he was going to punch her, but struck her in the face by accident.

He said he ran home and changed out of his sleeveless shirt into a yellow t-shirt.

Doctors said the woman had a broken nose and that a laceration near her left eye would need stitches.

Leflore was charged with battery. His court date is July 31 in the Skokie courthouse.
