A Des Plaines man faces criminal charges after a standoff with police Sunday, Sept. 15.

Matthew Weber-Mixon, 28, was charged after Des Plaines police responded to the call at 9:30 a.m. of a potentially suicidal person at a home in the 300 block of Oxford Road. Weber-Mixon told police when they arrived that he would shoot them if they interfered.

After negotiations and the use of pepper spray, Weber-Mixon surrendered to police and transported to Lutheran General Hospital for evaluation. Weber-Mixon, who had a sawed off shotgun with him, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing a police officer and cruel treatment to an animal.
