Des Plaines Police Officer Receives Life Saving Award

Des Plaines police officer Matt Cerasa was honored for helping to save the life of a man who had collapsed on the Des Plaines River Bridge at Rand Road.

The incident happened on Oct. 23, 2013. When Cerasa arrived the man was not breathing and was unresponsive. Cerasa began cardio pulmonary resuscitation. the man began breathing intermittently as paramedics arrived.

The paramedics were able to apply more advanced life saving measures before transporting the man to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's intensive care unit.
