Basketball Taunt Leads to Battery Charge

Miguel A. Infante, 32, of Schaumburg, was charged with battery June 22 at a park in the 1500 block of East Howard Avenue.

Police said another man had laughed at Infante after he made a poor basketball play. The game was stopped and the man told Infante that he did not like him.

According to the report, Infante punched  the man in the lower jaw. Police said the victim had a red mark on his lower lip and a small puncture wound inside his lower lip, and that Infante’s knuckle had a small laceration.

Both refused medical treatment. 

Infante’s court date is July 5 in the Skokie courthouse.

Break-in Occurs At Store On Elmhurst Road

A small grocery store in the 1100 block of South Elmhurst Road was broken into  on June 21 about 12:40 a.m. Police arrived as the burglar alarm was going off, and found two fist-sized concrete chunks, a shattered glass entry door and a hole in the fence.

About $80 was taken from the cash register.

Police brought in a K-9 unit, and the dog led officers to an apartment building in the 700 block of West Algonquin Road. 

Rental Vehicle Missing From Parking Lot 

A 2010 white Ford van was taken from a car rental lot in the 2100 block of South Mannheim Road. A manager said the vehicle had been rented and then returned on April 13, but an inventory showed it was missing. Police entered it in a database of stolen vehicles.
