Des Plaines Police Blotter: $5,000 Taken From Coffee Can

In a home burglary June 18, an apartment resident in the 600 block of Colonial Lane left for work about 10:30 a.m. and locked both the front and back doors.

At 4:30 p.m., his brother left for work.

One resident returned at 10:20 p.m. and found the front door open. The apartment was ransacked, according to the police report. When police arrived, they found all the dresser drawers had been pulled open and closet items had been emptied onto the bed.

Police observed a red Folgers plastic coffee container, which had contained $5,000, mostly in $50 and $100 bills. Also, an additional $300 was taken from a drawer.
