After a resident in the 400 block of Amherst Avenue hired a company to clean up flood damage July 5,  she left for a doctor’s appointment and left her son in charge at home.

When she returned, she discovered a jewelry box was missing. It contained six gold and diamond rings and miscellaneous bracelets, with a total value of about $10,000.

Man Charged with Felony Aggravated DUI

Roy M. Nthiga, 21, of Mount Prospect, was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence July 11 just before 10 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Elmhurst Road.

Police said he was in a crash and they determined he was driving under the influence, according to the report. After checking a database, they found his license was suspended for driving under the influence. An assistant county state’s attorney approved a felony charge of aggravated DUI.

He was also charged with improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, DUI over 0.08, and improper turn. His court date is July 19 in Skokie.
