Des Plaines Officer Honored by City

Des Plaines Police Chief William Kushner, on behalf of the City of Des Plaines, presented Police Officer Steven Dickson with a Life Saving Award.

On March 1, 2013, Officer Steven Dickson, responded to an “open line 9-1-1” call at an address on Oakton Street. Upon arrival, Officer Dickson located an unresponsive 55 year old female. Officer Dickson could not find a pulse, requested paramedics, and immediately began Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a press release from the city states.

Fire Department Paramedics arrived on the scene and took over treatment. The victim regained a pulse and faint heartbeat, and was transported to Lutheran General Hospital by Fire Department personnel where she initially survived.  She subsequently passed away.

According to Police Chief Kushner, it isthe opinion of the Des Plaines Fire Department Paramedics that Officer Dickson’s quick and decisive life saving measures helped to initially save the life of the victim.
