Des Plaines Man Charged With Harassing, Spitting on Witness

A 29-year-old parolee has been charged with a felony for harassing a witness in a criminal case against him, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today. 

Cook County Sheriff’s Police were called to the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive in unincorporated Des Plaines on a report of a battery. Sheriff’s Police Detectives learned that Michael Schaar, of Des Plaines, had spit on the victim and verbally threatened the victim bodily harm just after 12 a.m. Thursday.

Detectives also learned that the victim was a witness in an assault case against Schaar and that Schaar blamed the victim for his June 22, 2013 arrest. 

Schaar, who is currently on parole from IDOC, has been charged with felony harassing a witness and with battery, a misdemeanor.

His bond was set at $125,000 during his appearance at the Skokie Courthouse today. His next court date is scheduled for July 15 at the Skokie Courthouse. 

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
