Des Plaines Burglary Foiled by Resident, Police

Police were able to charge a Chicago man with two different burglaries thanks to a Des Plaines resident who reported hearing suspicious noises coming from his neighbors apartment unit on Tuesday.

The Cook County Sheriff's Department was able to foil a burglary in prgoress in Des Plaines on Tuesday.

According to the Sheriff's Department, an apartment complex resident heard suspicious noises coming from his neighbors unit in the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive around 1:40 p.m. He would later call authorities and upon arrival, the Sheriff's Police caught an offender in an apartment while committing a burglary, according to the Sheriff's Department.  

John W. Gilliam, 35, of Chicago, was charged with felony residential burglary, the Sherriff's Department said. He was issued a $100,000 bond and is set to appear at the Skokie Courthouse on Jan. 24.

When police searched Gilliam they found a single-handle lug nut iron, screwdriver and pocket knife. The suspect also had jewelry and a set of car keys belonging to a stolen car in the adjoining driveway, authorities said.

Later that day, a different man realized that his apartment was burglarized in the 9600 block of Brandy Court. All of the missing items reported stolen matched those on Gilliam, police said.
