Armed Des Plaines Man Stalks, Threatens Woman

Peter Frauenhoffer, 29, of Des Plaines was charged with armed robbery after allegedly following a woman from a coin shop and threatening her at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Aug. 16, according to Niles police.

Police said the victim, a 58-year-old Mount Prospect woman, noticed a vehicle tailgating her starting around the 9000 block of Golf Road as she drove east.

The woman said she pulled into a parking lot in the 8200 block of Golf in Niles and did not see the offender's black SUV.

While she was sitting in her car, Frauenhoffer, displaying a large metal file, approached her, according to the report.

Police said he threatened the woman with physical harm and said, “I know you have at least $1,000 from the coin shop.”

Police said Frauenhoffer may have followed the woman from a coin shop in Des Plaines to the parking lot in Niles.

The woman gave the offender $300 and Frauenhoffer fled in his vehicle, according to the report.

Police traced the vehicle’s license plate number and police took Frauenhoffer into custody at his residence in Wheeling at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Niles police contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office and Assistant States Attorney Sianis approved one count of armed robbery, a Class X felony. 

The offense has a mandatory minimum sentence of 6-30 years in the Department of Corrections without change of probation upon conviction.
