In the original version of this story, five people were reported to be transported to area hospitals, but their conditions were unknown.

There is a link to a story by Journal & Topics Newspapers in the first post below, in which witness reports stated a black truck traveling southbound on Elmhurst Road, ran a red light, and struck a red truck either turning into or out of the 7-Eleven south of Oakton Street on Tuesday.

Treantafeles said there was no indication in the police report that the blue, not black, truck traveling southbound ran a red light.

The driver of the red truck traveling northbound, who was attempting to turn left into the 7-Eleven, was issued citations for failing to yield turning left, no valid driver’s license and no valid insurance, Treantafeles said.

The was dispatched at 3:08 p.m. and arrived within four minutes, said Randy Trost, deputy fire chief.

“It was a three-vehicle accident, and it involved a head-on collision and a rollover of one of the vehicles,” Trost said.

Firefighters extricated one person that was pinned inside the rolled-over vehicle.

Trost said he did not know the condition of the patients.

Three people were taken to Northwest Community Hospital, and two to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, he said. One other person refused treatment.

Near that intersection are on- and off-ramps for I-90 from Elmhurst Road, and there is a located at the southwest corner of the intersection at Oakton.

Witnesses stated a black truck heading southbound on Oakton Street went through a red light and crashed into a red truck either turning into or out of the 7-Eleven on the southwest corner, Journal & Topics Newspapers reported.

More than 20 first-responders from Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect and Elk Grove Township fire departments operating 10 pieces of equipment, including five ambulances, responded to the scene, Trost said.
